CAR Foundation Supports Housing Stability Through Extreme Community Makeover

The CAR Foundation is proud to award a $15,000 grant to Extreme Community Makeover (ECM) to support their 2025 Adopt-a-Block Work Day Program, which helps Denver residents improve the safety, appearance, and livability of their homes and neighborhoods.

Operating in eight historically underserved neighborhoods including Westwood, Elyria-Swansea, Globeville, and Barnum, ECM mobilizes volunteer teams to complete essential home and alley improvement projects. These efforts empower residents, many of whom are older adults or individuals with disabilities, to safely age in place and maintain housing stability in the face of rising costs and limited resources.

“Extreme Community Makeover fills a gap that no one else is addressing,” said Amy McDermott, Executive Director of the CAR Foundation. “Their work strengthens communities block by block and helps ensure that residents, especially those at risk of displacement, feel supported, connected, and proud of their neighborhoods.”

Since its founding in 2008, ECM has engaged more than 40,000 volunteers to complete thousands of revitalization projects. The CAR Foundation’s support will help expand their reach in 2025, bolstering ECM’s award-winning volunteer infrastructure and enabling even more Denver residents to live in cleaner, safer, and more dignified surroundings.
