Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity creates pathways to affordable homeownership through construction, education, and community partnership. Serving low- to moderate-income households, the organization builds energy-efficient homes while preparing families with financial literacy, mortgage readiness, and long-term planning skills that support lasting housing stability in a high-cost rural market.
CAR Foundation support (2026) will advance Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity’s Triplex Build at The Crossing in Buena Vista, expanding access to attainable homeownership in a region where rising costs have placed housing out of reach for many local residents. Funding will support construction of one home within the development while strengthening homebuyer education that prepares families for long-term success.
Through this investment, Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity will combine volunteer-driven construction, donated materials, and partner family participation to deliver high-quality, energy-efficient homes for households earning 30 to 80 percent of area median income. Participating families will complete sweat equity hours and engage in comprehensive education covering budgeting, credit, mortgage readiness, and home maintenance, ensuring they are prepared to sustain homeownership over time.
CAR Foundation support will help remove barriers to entry in a constrained housing market while strengthening pathways to long-term stability. By pairing construction with education and community engagement, this investment will allow working families to build equity, remain in the communities they serve, and contribute to a more stable and resilient housing landscape across Chaffee County.
