The Salvation Army provides food, shelter, housing, and emergency assistance to people of all ages, addressing both immediate needs and the root causes of poverty through compassionate, holistic care that nurtures physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
CAR Foundation support (2024) strengthened The Salvation Army Colorado Springs’ RJ Montgomery Family Hope Center by expanding enrichment, life skills, and case management services for families experiencing homelessness. This investment helped the Family Hope Center provide shelter and stability while integrating programming that addressed employment readiness, financial literacy, and family well-being for residents facing significant barriers to housing.
As a result of this support, the Family Hope Center served 962 individuals during 2024, far exceeding initial projections. Residents participated in self-sufficiency and life skills classes focused on budgeting, cooking, and workplace readiness, supported by 954 individualized case management meetings. These efforts helped families address income instability, employment challenges, and financial skills, while 25 enrichment and engagement activities strengthened connection, routine, and a sense of belonging within the shelter community.
CAR Foundation funding contributed to strong housing outcomes, with 70 percent of households exiting the shelter moving into stable housing. By pairing trauma-informed case management with employment preparation, financial education, and community partnerships, the Foundation helped families move from crisis toward independence. This investment demonstrates how comprehensive, housing-centered services can restore stability, rebuild self-sufficiency, and create lasting change for families working to secure a safe place to call home.
