Housing Resources of Western Colorado advances equitable housing and healthy communities by providing counseling, education, affordable rentals, and development services. Serving 15 Western Slope counties, the organization removes barriers to homeownership and housing stability through evidence-based programs that empower renters, homebuyers, and homeowners to thrive.
CAR Foundation support (2024) advanced Housing Resources of Western Colorado’s Path to Homeownership initiative by strengthening early-stage counseling, financial education, and coordinated services to prepare households for sustainable homeownership. This investment helped launch and expand a regional framework combining HUD-approved counseling, financial fitness training, savings incentives, and homebuyer education to guide residents through a clear and achievable housing pathway.
As a result of this support, Housing Resources served 717 individuals across education and counseling programs during the reporting period. Services included 497 homebuyer education participants, 115 pre-purchase counseling cases, 24 financial capability counseling cases, and the distribution of 22 savings booster grants that directly contributed to 22 new homeowners. These outcomes reflect strong demand for individualized guidance and demonstrate the effectiveness of pairing education with personalized financial coaching.
CAR Foundation funding strengthened long-term housing stability by helping households build financial readiness in a high-cost and low-inventory market. By investing in counseling capacity, education delivery, and tools that clarify the homeownership journey, the Foundation helped residents move from aspiration to action. This support underscores how targeted housing education and financial preparation create durable outcomes, expand access to homeownership, and strengthen communities across Western Colorado.
