Manna The Durango Soup Kitchen provides nutritious meals, supportive services, and employment readiness programs for individuals facing hardship. Serving the community since 1985, the organization addresses the root causes of poverty by meeting immediate needs while helping people build stability, dignity, and pathways toward self-sufficiency.

CAR Foundation support (2024) strengthened Manna The Durango Soup Kitchen’s housing stability efforts by providing critical rental and security deposit assistance to low-income households at risk of losing their homes. This investment allowed Manna to respond quickly to short-term financial crises, helping families remain housed while connecting them to case management, food access, and employment-related resources.

As a result of this funding, Manna served nine households between September and November 2024, delivering five instances of rental assistance and five security deposits. One hundred percent of participating households maintained housing stability, including seniors, veterans, families fleeing domestic violence, monolingual Spanish-speaking households, and families impacted by illness or sudden income loss. These outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of pairing flexible financial assistance with individualized support.

CAR Foundation funding helped prevent homelessness in a high-cost rural community where move-in expenses and rising rents create significant barriers to stability. By investing in timely housing assistance, the Foundation ensured that vulnerable residents could remain safely housed while rebuilding financial footing. This support highlights how strategic, targeted housing investments protect families, strengthen communities, and create lasting stability for those most at risk.
