Response Help Survivors of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault helps its clients achieve safety and empowerment through bilingual, trauma-informed advocacy. Serving the Roaring Fork Valley, the organization provides crisis intervention, housing assistance, legal and medical accompaniment, and long-term support that helps survivors rebuild stability and independence.
CAR Foundation support (2024) helped Response complete construction of the Halle Center for Hope and Healing, the upper Roaring Fork Valley’s first domestic abuse shelter. This investment played a critical role in a successful capital campaign and resulted in the opening of a secure, welcoming facility that combines survivor advocacy offices with seven on-site shelter units for individuals and families fleeing violence.
Since opening in February 2025, the Center has provided safe housing to 29 adults and 18 children. Survivors stayed an average of 45 days while working closely with advocates and shelter staff to address safety, legal needs, and housing plans. As a result of this coordinated, housing-centered approach, 97 percent of shelter residents moved into safe, independent housing and did not return to their abusive partner, demonstrating the effectiveness of pairing short-term shelter with rapid rehousing and case management.
CAR Foundation funding ensured that survivors could move from crisis to stability without sacrificing dignity or security. By investing in the physical infrastructure needed to expand shelter capacity, the Foundation helped Response transform emergency escape into lasting safety. This support prevented homelessness, strengthened pathways to independence, and showed how strategic housing investments can create meaningful, life-changing outcomes for survivors and their families.
