In 2024, CAR Foundation proudly supported the Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN) in our shared goal of helping families rebuild stability and hope after domestic violence. Our $15,000 grant supported SPAN’s Housing Stability Program, which provides survivors and their children with safe shelter, case management, and a pathway toward long-term independence.
Last year, SPAN helped more than 200 adults and 100 children secure emergency shelter and basic needs. Even more powerfully, 213 survivors, including 99 children, moved from crisis to stable housing with ongoing advocacy and financial support. For many, this was their first chance to build a home of their own.
One mother’s journey, “Martha,” captures the spirit of this work. After fleeing years of abuse, she arrived at SPAN’s shelter frightened and unsure of what came next. With guidance from SPAN’s bilingual staff, she secured a housing voucher, received assistance with rent and moving costs, and enrolled in an economic empowerment program that connected her to full-time employment and college training in healthcare. Today, she and her children are safe, healing, and planning for a future filled with possibility.
CARF’s investment helped make stories like Martha’s possible, helping to ensure safety leads to stability, and stability leads to opportunity. As we continue this partnership, we invite you to join us in creating a Colorado where every family has a safe home and the chance to thrive.
